Dr. Simonson grew up on a farm in northern Iowa. He went to high school in Pocahontas — which is even smaller than Fort Lupton! Dr. Simonson graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. During his undergraduate program, he enjoyed running all four years with the track team and one year with the cross country team. Dr. Simonson also participated in the Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do Karate Club.
In 2002, Dr. Simonson earned his Doctoral degree in Optometry from The Ohio State University College of Optometry. While in Columbus, Ohio he was active with Student Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity (SVOSH) which is an organization that provides vision care to impoverished countries including examinations, medications, and glasses. Dr. Simonson was a volunteer in the Dominican Republic during the events of September 11, 2001. Always active in the Epsilon Psi Epsilon Optometry Professional Fraternity, Dr. Simonson was Plege of the Year, Junior of the Year, and President of the EΨE Organization. He was also inducted into the Gold Key Optometric Honor Society. Externship experience was gained at the Cheyenne Veterans Affairs Hospital and Ohio Eye Associates. Further experience was gained while employed for Glaucoma Consultants and The Retina Group, both in Columbus.
Dr. Simonson met his wife Jennifer in optometry school. She has a speciality practice in pediatric and binocular vision and is the clinical director of Boulder Valley Vision Therapy, a vision therapy practice in Boulder, Colorado. Together they have three sons, Cody, Cade and Tyler.
After being mountain deprived in the flatlands of Iowa and Ohio, Dr. Simonson moved to Colorado in 2003. He was able to purchase the Fort Lupton optometry office in 2005. He wanted to practice in Fort Lupton because the people of this community are friendly and the small town feel reminds him of where he grew up. His hobbies involve hiking, skiing, woodworking, and gardening. He is also a Cub Scout den leader, assistant Boy Scout leader, and youth soccer coach. Professional memberships include the Fort Lupton Chamber of Commerce, the American Optometric Association, the Colorado Optometric Association, and the Northern Colorado Optometric Society.
